GM and organic farming: Adversaries or comrades in the fight against malnutrition?

This is my first submission to SiloBusters, the interdisciplinary idea sharing network.
Synopsis:
The organic farming movement is strongly opposed to genetically modified crops. I argue that the two philosophies are actually very compatible. An alliance between GM and organic farming could secure a nutritious and sustainable food supply for the world's rapidly growing population.
Many nutrition, sustainable development and global philanthropic groups; however, do not agree with the activists. Helen Keller International (HKI), the Gates Foundation and IRRI are working together on biofortification in support of Golden Rice. See:
