I haven't had any time to post lately even though technically I should, having finished all my exams a few weeks ago:) The reason for it I think is because I've been training so much! I've been getting out on the bike for a decent ride before work each day, trying to replicate what it's going to be like in Europe in just under 2 weeks time.
Managed to rack up 700km last week, which I was pretty pleased with as it's the maximum mileage we're planning on doing. A little knee pain presented itself, but I just rode through it, reasoning that I'm not going to have the luxury of taking time off in Europe, so I may as well just get used to it. Probably a stupid idea, but my knee's healed itself now:) Feeling really strong on the bike - going noticeably quicker up hills and generally feeling in the cycling state of mind.
On the running front, things are going ok too. I had my last physio appointment on Tuesday, which involved having needles stuck into my leg. It didn't really seem to do anything, but boy I was all too happy to have that over deep tissue massage! When she starts digging her elbows into my legs, it's all I can do not to scream in agony as my entire body spasms and twitches!
I stuck to my schedule last week and did 15km over 4 days. I really should be going easy, but when the runs are so short, the temptation is to go fast to get a benefit out of them, and that's exactly what I've been doing! Had a really great progression run on the treadmill at work last night: started off at 12kph and worked it up 0.1kph every 15s. By the end of the 5k/20 minutes, I was going 3:08/k and was trying desperately not to fall off the back of the tready! It involved a 3k PB - 10:40, and I'm quite sure there would be a 2k/1k PB in there too if I actually cared about those distances:P
My friend Matt and I went for a good ride out in the near constant rain today and in the process, he claimed he thought I was in 36 flat shape for 10k. I scoffed at the idea, but am eager to see how close I am, particularly so I can set a bench mark for my pre-cycling-junket fitness. There's an aths vic track meet on Sunday, so I'd like to do the 5000m there. Just have to work out the MO of entering unattached..

I'll be posting more details of the trip next week when I have a bit more spare time. Planning's starting to accelerate now that Luke (the guy I'm going with) has finished uni too. The sticking point at the moment is getting our bikes to the start line in Madrid and leaving the bulky stuff back in Germany. It is a logistical nightmare! Trains and bikes don't mix in Spain it seems.
